Assessment (screening) for school readiness
Program evaluation for accountability
Administering
Administration of the BDI-2 can begin in any of the five domains (Personal-Social, Adaptive, Motor, Communication, Cognitive). The start point for each subdomain are clearly marked and are determined by the age or the estimated ability level of the child. Examiners proceed through each of the subdomains to determine the child\’s level of development.
The BDI-2 items are child-friendly and easy to administer. Based on the multifaceted information from Structured, Observational and Interview items, the BDI-2 can be used by a team of professionals to create a comprehensive picture of the young child\’s skills.
Structured and Observational items incorporate authentic, game-like activities. The Interview items of the BDI-2 provide open-ended questions the examiner can ask the parent or teacher to obtain the necessary information about the child. Each item has been rewritten into a \”script\”, so the examiner can be consistent in asking a specific question and can probe, where necessary, to ensure that enough information is gathered.
More than one-third of the items may be administered using multiple sources of information. The scoring rules for each item have been revised to provide clear, quick, at-a-glance scoring.
