Checklist of Adaptive Living Skills (CALS) Robert H. Bruininks, Lanny Moreau
CALS is a criterion-referenced, individually administered measure of adaptive living skills and an ideal tool for planning. As a measure of adaptive living skills, CALS may be used to determine the specific skills an individual has mastered or needs to master in important environments. As a tool for planning, CALS may be used to determine instructional needs, develop individual training objectives, and monitor progress of learners toward achieving instructional goals. It is intended to be used with a wide range of individuals, with and without disabilities, from infancy to mature adult. CALS may be used in a variety of educational, residential, day care, rehabilitation, work activity, employment training, and other human service settings. CALS can be used each time the individual\’s long-term goals are evaluated, each time the individual experiences a major change in environment, and each time there is a need to select new or different skills areas for evaluation and instruction.
