Comprehensive Receptive and Expressive Vocabulary Test – Adult (CREVT-A)Gerald Wallace, Donald D. Hammill
The CREVT-A measures bothe receptive and expressive oral vocabulary; it is available in two equivalent forms and is suitable for individuals ages 18.0 to 89.11. The test was normed on 778 subjects residing in seven states and the District of Columbia. The items of the two CREVT-A subtests were selected on the basis of practical considerations and experimental investigations. Practical considerations involved such matters as ease of administration and scoring. Experimental investigations reflected a particular aproach to test construction in which of the items that make u the subtests were selected by statistical vderifications. The first step of this procedure involved the development of a large pool of words that represented 10 different categories (animals, transportation, occupations, clothing, foods, personal grooming, tolls, household appliances, recreation, and clerical materials). These items were then administered to various groups. The performance of individuals in these groups was then analyzed statistically to determine which items would be included in each subtest. Items that were too easy or too difficult or that consistently elicited responses that were inconsistent were deleted from the subtest.
