Wide Range Achievement Test 3 (WRAT3) Gary S. Wilkinson, PhD
Purpose: Measure the development of reading, spelling, and arithmetic skills
Age Range: Child, Adolescent, Adult, Elder Adult
Adminstration: Individual or group
Time: 15-30 minutes; less than 5 minutes to score
This widely used test provides valid and reliable information on individual achievement (ages 5-75 years). The WRAT3 identifies the level of coding performance and helps to identify learning disabilities in reading, spelling, and arithmetic when used in conjunction with a comprehensive test of general ability. The WRAT3 includes:
New national stratified sample
All new grade ratings
Scaling and item analysis by the Rasch Method
New absolute scales to precisely measure each code across its full range of development
Two equivalent, alternate test forms (Blue and Tan) for pre- and posttesting or for more comprehensive test results
New Profile/Analysis forms for comparing and/or combining results of Blue and Tan test forms
Word lists for both forms of the Reading and Spelling subtests on plastic cards (required for the administration of this version)
WRAT3 measures the development of basic academic skills over time after intervention is attempted. It is also used to evaluate the relationships between the coding aspects of reading and arithmetic and the behavioral disabilities of verbal and numerical comprehension and problem solving.
Description
The WRAT3 consists of two equivalent alternate test forms. Each form of the WRAT3 has three subtests focusing on specific coding skills:
Reading–recognizing and naming letters, pronouncing printed words
Spelling–writing names, writing letters and words from dictation
Arithmetic–counting, reading number symbols, oral problem computations
Administration/Scoring
Spelling and arithmetic tests may be administered to groups or individuals; reading, to an individual only. The WRAT3 is easily hand scored in less than 5 minutes. Use the Profile/Analysis Form to combine the scores from the two test forms (Blue and Tan) in order to get a more comprehensive analysis of an individual\’s skills.
Reliability/Validity
The WRAT3 is normed by age-not grade level-for greater accuracy. WRAT3 standard scores and percentiles compare an individual\’s performance with others of the same age. The grade levels indicated are clues to instructional levels, not determinations of specific instructional levels.
WRAT3 Introductory Kit includes WRAT3 Manual, 25 Blue Test Forms, 25 Tan Test Forms, 25 Profile/Analysis Forms, Plastic Word List Cards, and Soft Canvas Carrying Case.
